About Consultants In Aging LLC:

Consultants In Aging is a service based business focusing on helping seniors remain safely in their homes and in good health. We offer senior health and fitness classes in the community, home safety and fall prevention assessments, and equipment procurement and installation/assembly. We are here to help seniors age at their own pace in their own space.

About Our Providers:

Kate Mercado MS, OTRL, ECHM

Kate has been an Occupational Therapist for 15 years. She has an Executive Certificate in Home Modification, which means she specializes in helping seniors make their homes safe for productive aging. She has a great passion for serving senior citizens in her community and helping them to remain healthy and in their homes for as long as they choose. She firmly believes that health and safety go hand in hand. She is the primary developer of all of the classes offered, and performs home assessments and equipment procurement and installation. She lives in Westland with her four children and pet dog.

Home Safety and Fall Prevention Assessments:

Home Safety/Accessibility Assessment and Recommendations:

This service includes an assessment of your home's safety and set up for your accessibility needs. This includes a ​written assessment and list of recommendations. This service includes an initial assessment visit and a follow up ​visit to provide you with the written assessment and recommendation list.

Fall Prevention Assessment and Recommendations:

This service includes an assessment of your home, and a plan for preventing falls. This includes a written plan to ​help you or your loved one avoid falls in their home. This service includes an initial visit and a follow up visit to ​provide you with the written assessment and fall prevention plan.

Grab Bar Assessment and Installation:

This service includes an assessment visit and installation visit. We will perform a comprehensive assessment of ​the area requested, map or tape out grab bar placement, and install the grab bars. We purchase grab bars in a ​style suitable to your home and budget. We install the grab bars.

Equipment Procurement and Installation:

This service provides the recommended equipment with installation. We will order the equipment for ​you and install it in your home. This service includes the recommendations of an Occupational ​Therapist and installation into your home . (Examples of Equipment included in this service are: bedside ​commodes, shower seats, elevated toilet seats, bed canes, etc.) This service can be combined if needed ​with a Home Safety Assessment.

This service does not apply towards specific durable medical equipment covered by Medicare/Insurance. If recommended equipment includes equipment that is considered durable medical equipment that is typically covered by Medicare we will help you obtain the necessary paperwork to obtain through a Medicare based vendor. We DO NOT perform specialty wheelchair seating assessments as these need to be provided via a specialty wheelchair seating service.

Our Fitness Philosophy:

• We believe that productive and healthy aging is achieved through prevention, not just in response to injuries and events, as is the case with the traditional healthcare therapy model.
• The classes we offer are designed and implemented under the supervision of a Licensed and Registered Occupational Therapist.
• We require intake forms that are reviewed by the therapist prior to class registration to help you have an optimal experience and achieve your goals safely.
